Unlocking deduction exports
with ease for enterprise
Summary.
Our account managers were hearing repeated complaints from enterprise clients about the time-consuming process of exporting deductions for each of their company entities individually.
As Lead product designer, I led the end-to-end process to build a web-based bulk export tool for parent companies. Collaborating closely with product, engineering, and account management, we delivered an experience that reduced export time by over 90% bringing it down to less than 10 seconds per company. This solution significantly improved our offering for existing clients and strengthened our position for future enterprise expansion.
Project Context.
Tapcheck is an earned wage access platform that empowers employers to enable their employees to cash out earnings immediately after completing a shift. This project focused on improving the Parent Deduction export experiencea backend tool used by enterprise-level clients to export deduction reports across multiple company entities.
Timeline + team.
The project kicked off in February 2025 with a 1-week design sprint, followed by 2 engineering sprints for implementation. The cross-functional team included:
I led design and collaborated with our team of 1 PM, Head of Production, key stakeholder, front end and backend engineering team, and account managers.
Problem & Goals.
Business problem:
The lack of a streamlined export process posed a churn risk for Tapchecks enterprise clients. Account managers regularly received complaints from parent companies frustrated by the inefficiency, signaling dissatisfaction that could impact long-term retention and growth. This gap also limited our ability to position Tapcheck as a scalable solution for larger employers.
User problem:
Users managing multiple entities within a parent company were required to manually select and export deductions one entity at a timemaking the process tedious and unnecessarily time-consuming. While not a hard blocker, the repetitive workflow created unnecessary friction for high-value clients.
Success Metrics
• Reduced time per export to <10 seconds
• Over 90% decrease in time spent
• Drop in support tickets related to exports

Personas.
Payroll Managers:
Responsible for preparing bi-weekly deduction reports across multiple entities within a parent company.
Goal: Export complete and accurate reports for payroll processing
Pain Point: If they forgot to select one entity, they had to repeat the export process wasting time
Design Process.
Ideation & sketches
We began by mapping the existing export flow and identifying key pain points in collaboration with PMs and account managers. I led brainstorming sessions and conducted a competitive analysis of tools like ADP to explore patterns in multi-entity exports. These insights shaped the early structure of our solution.
Wireframes & low-Fi Prototypes
I created low-fidelity mockups to visualize initial flows and layouts. We tested these prototypes directly with enterprise customers to validate clarity and expected behavior. Their feedback helped us prioritize which details to surface up front and how to simplify interactions.
Iterations & trade-offs
One major design decision was how to handle the entity selection experiencespecifically, whether to introduce a side panel versus inline controls. We also discussed defaulting to the current pay period to reduce clicks. A few challenges around output formatting emerged during handoff, but were resolved collaboratively during the QA and production phase.
Solution & Visual Design.

The final UI leveraged Tapchecks new design system and focused on speed, clarity, and scalability.

The experience followed Tapchecks updated design system, incorporating improved color contrast, hover states, and focus indicators to support accessible navigation.

What we learned:
Im most proud of the speed and clarity with which we launched. The collaboration across product, engineering, and account management was seamless, and the team took real pride in delivering something simple yet impactful. While the UI appeared straightforward, it required nuanced backend coordinationmaking its successful launch a major win. Most importantly, the tool significantly reduced stress for our account managers while elevating our enterprise positioning.
