Context

Solace is a German civil engineering startup building a proprietary project management platform. Generic tools like Asana and Monday failed to meet industry-specific needs around compliance, equipment tracking, and multi-country coordination.

I led end-to-end product design, including brand identity, user research, information architecture, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing across a multi-month engagement with client stakeholders and engineers.

Problem

Civil engineering contractors struggled to coordinate complex projects, manage resources, and maintain safety compliance using generic project management tools.

• No industry-specific dashboards for compliance tracking or equipment management

• Communication gaps between contractors, subcontractors, and project managers

• Missed compliance deadlines due to lack of tailored features

Approach

Designed a tailored dashboard with compliance tracking, equipment/resource management, and embedded communication channels. Focused on metric-driven views that provide at-a-glance visibility with drill-down into project specifics.

Built a complete design system with consistent color tokens, high-contrast elements, and scalable component patterns to support growth across regions.

The final platform gave contractors and project managers a single view of all active projects with status tracking, deadlines, and budget visibility.

Impact

• 30% improvement in project tracking efficiency

• 25% boost in safety compliance adherence

• Reduced reliance on email, improving communication speed and clarity

Contractors praised the tailored workflows; PMs valued equipment tracking and compliance visibility. The platform replaced generic tools with a branded, industry-specific solution.
