Context
Qualcomm, a global leader in wireless technology, needed to manage a rapidly expanding portfolio of 1,000+ concurrent projects. Legacy tools and fragmented systems created inefficiencies across capacity planning, financial tracking, and project visibility.
I led UX research, persona creation, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing across a multi-month engagement, collaborating with engineering, project management, and finance stakeholders.
Problem
Project managers, engineers, and finance teams lacked intuitive tools for real-time capacity planning, budget tracking, and project visibility—resorting to Excel workarounds and fragmented systems.
• Inaccurate forecasting due to disconnected data sources
• Budget overruns from limited real-time financial visibility
• Heavy administrative overhead for project tracking and reporting
Approach
Created a unified dashboard combining capacity planning, financial tracking, and historical contract management. Featured project creation with Gantt toggle, detail pages with timelines and capacity data, and inline budget tracking.
Simplified task assignment, restructured navigation for faster access to financial data, and validated with interviews and surveys across PM, engineering, and finance roles.
Impact
• +44% resource utilization
• -26% budget overruns
• +45% forecasting accuracy
• -30% administrative time on project tracking and reporting
PMs praised real-time visibility and reduced manual work. Finance teams valued improved forecasting tools. Rapid adoption across departments validated the unified approach.
